Current Information:Age-29 224 Gascoigne Road, Barking HM Submarine E24 was a mine laying submarine that left Harwich on 21st March, 1916 to lay mines off the German coast in the Heligoland Bight. HM Submarine E24 failed to return from this mission and it is likely, especially from evidence obtained when she was raised in 1973, that she hit a mine herself. She was officially posted as missing on 24th March but the Commonwealth War Graves Commission’s records have the date of death for all her crew as being 27th March, 1916. The actual date is unknown. |
